Under Pressure

What can I say about Under Pressure, other than I absolutely loved it? It's a first book in the new Body Armor series by Lori Foster. It's a spin-off from the Ultimate series were we first met Leese. He has left the MMA world to become a security guard for Body Armor. He is assigned to keep Catalina safe from an unknown threat. Catalina has been trying to live her own life from being under her stepfather's thumb. But when she hears the wrong conversation, her life is in danger.

Under Pressure was a very interesting and enjoyable read, filled with both suspense and tender emotion and if this story is anything to go by, I'll say that this new series is off to a great start! *JK*

The Old West

Paulette Jiles's book,  News of the World, is a western in that it take place in the west after the Civil War. The story, about an old man delivering a rescued ten year old girl, is based on true stories of children captured by Native Americans during this period. Sometimes these captives did not want to go home to their original families. Some did but never adjusted well. A fascinating but little known piece of history. In the story the young girl does not want to go home. The old man is having second thoughts about this as they travel across a dangerous and lawless land. Exciting, tender and well written, this is a lovely book. ML

Breath of Fire

Breath of Fire by Amanda Bouchet actually starts right where A Promise of Fire left off. This is undoubtedly one of the best fantasy/romance series I've found in a very long time! The plot is riveting,  the pace is exciting and the characters are both well developed and very easy to fall in love with.

The blend of fantasy with mystery and mythology is what really did me in, not to mention the over the top steamy romance that was every bit as hard to resist. And while some things still remained predictable, the writing and storyline still managed to hook and lure you in until the very last page was turned. It was completely irresistible and hard to put down. *JK*

Serial Killer in Sydney

Harriet Blue is a slightly damaged, super-focused detective with the Sydney Sex Crimes unit. When she is called to the scene of a young woman’s murder, she has a feeling it was done by the Georges River serial killer. Before she can validate her theory, another detective, “Tox” Barnes takes over the case and completely dismisses it. Tox is a policeman’s worst nightmare—he was once convicted of a crime and his colleagues can’t stomach him. Blue is trying to do her job, but everything and everybody is holding her back. Black & Blue by James Patterson and Candice Fox is a short thriller, packed with action and intrigue. DB

A Chilling Collection

For those that enjoy horror stories, we have just the book! Six Scary Stories selected and compiled by Stephen King. While judging a short story competition to promote his book The Bazaar of Bad Dreams in the United Kingdom, King selected these top finishers and suggested they be published together in one book.  This anthology is brand new and sure to tingle even the heartiest spines!
