Surrender to the Highlander

Lynsay Sands' historical and paranormal romance series are a great mix of humor and hot romance. Surrender to the Highlander is the fifth book in Lynsay Sands' Scottish Highlander Series, but each book is a standalone and you do not need to read the previous before picking up this one. Surrender to the Highlander is Neil Buchanan and Edith's story. Neil is one of Siadh's many brothers and Edith is one of her close friends. Their story had a mystery, some humor and some steamy romance. I highly recommend this series for historical romance lovers looking for hot Scottish romances. They're addicting! *JK*

I Ever I Should Love You

Cathy Maxwell has a talent for breaking a heart in the sweetest of ways. Leonie is stuck in the past, reliving her mistakes and punishing herself for them. It's hard to like her, but in time you will understand her. Roman was never meant to be a hero, but he ended up being a twofold one. He had the courage to listen to his heart and pursue the one woman he had to work the hardest for and the foresight to empathize and help mend at time callous, but brutally broken heart. If Ever I Should Love You may run hot and cold, but it appeals to what makes us human.

If you're looking for something a little different, with real-life issues, flawed yet resilient characters, deep emotion, and a happy ending, give this a try. *JK*

The Right Kind of Rogue

The Right Kind of Rogue by Valerie Bowman was an excellent historical romance with a scheming matchmaker, love interests on opposite sides of feuding families and a wallflower who really comes into her own.

Meg Timmons has been in love with her best friend's brother, Hart Highgate, since she was sixteen years old. Now that Hart has decided it's time he marry, Meg knows this may be her last chance. However, her quest for love is hindered by the fact she has no dowry and her and Hart's family have been feuding for years. Hart had always thought of Meg as his little sister's best friend, but after a surprise encounter late at night, Hart hasn't been able to get Meg out of his head. Soon, Meg and Hart are caught up in the schemes of a matchmaker and will have to decide what they're willing to do for the chance at the love of a lifetime. *JK*

The Scotsman Who Saved Me

The Scotsman Who Saved Me by Hannah Howell has a well written introduction to a new series in which Scottish men who have immigrated to American will each have the story of how they find their brides told. In this book each brother is met and a bit is told about him but this is the story of the eldest, Iain McEnroy, and the woman he finds to settle down with.

This book seems to be a good read with a plot similar to many I have read and the characters were enjoyable and entertaining. You will definitely want to read the next book in the series. *JK

The Wicked Heir

The Wicked Heir, by Elizabeth Michels is a wonderful addition to the "Spare Heirs" series. Fallon St. James is the heart of the organization and has no intention of changing anything in his life until he is drawn in to helping Lady Isabelle Fairlyn find a suitable match.
Fallon and Isabelle fall in to many of the "traps" that this story-line often sets, however, they handle things in a refreshing and amusing way. When Fallon is left with no other option than to protect Isabelle, he spends a lot of time with her and gives up some of his secrets and the relationship takes on a new turn.
There is a lot of romance as well as excitement in this book. It's a wonderful, fast paced read. *JK*

Merely a Marriage

Merely a Marriage by Jo Beverley is a Regency/Historical novel. At the start, we meet Lady Ariana Boxstall, who is concerned about the future of her family, especially after the childbirth death of Princess Charlotte. Ariana fears that she would lose her beloved Boxstall residence to her drunken uncle, if her brother dies. She then sets a plan in motion for her brother Norris to marry, but the one condition is she must marry first.

Jo Beverley has been one of my favorite romance authors for years, and it's sad to think that this novel will be the last book after her death from cancer in 2016. *JK*

Hard-Hearted Highlander

Hard-Hearted Highlander is the third in Julia London's Highland Grooms series. This story deals with heartache, loss and grief but it balances with hope and healing. It can be read and enjoyed either as a stand-alone or as part of the series.

Both Rabbie and Bernadette tragically loved and lost someone, altering the course of their lives forever. Bernadette is forced to become a governess and Rabbie tries to give up on life until he steps in to protect the family lands and future by marrying a young Englishwoman. Young Avaline is not happy about marrying the bitter, harsh man who terrifies her, but breaking the engagement would ruin her reputation. While it is obvious Avaline is not the right bride for Rabbie even before sparks fly between him and her governess Bernadette, the dilemma they face gets quite complicated. *JK*

A Date at the Altar: Marrying the Duke

A Date at the Altar is the third book in the Marrying the Duke series by Cathy Maxwell. This can easily be read as a stand alone book. This is a story that will touch you down to your soul. Sarah and Gavin are amazing characters that will tug at your heartstrings and you will cheer for them as they get near their happy ending. The author writes a story that you will not be able to put down. There are lots of witty dialogue between Sarah and Gavin and you may even cry when they passionately open up and share each other their secrets. This is an extraordinary love story that you will want to read over and over again. *JK*

If the Earl Only Knew

If the Earl Only Knew has a delightful start to what looks to be an incredible series. There are so many wonderful characters in this book, it's hard to decide who to like. The story itself has a different feel to it than a typical historical romance. But there is plenty of action, suspense, romance, and family relationships.

The main character, Lady Katherine was definitely a kind of lady that's not afraid to express her opinions. As children, Kate and her brother are orphaned and taken to debtor's prison for their father's debts. When they're released, they find ways to take care of themselves.

John, is another character who proved that beneath the polished charm is a man of honor, strength, and action. He was somewhat arrogant before taking the title of Earl of Wynbrook, but his responsibilities slowly changed him to be more likable. *JK*

The Viscount Needs a Wife

The Viscount Needs a Wife is a standalone regency romance filled with historic traditions. The author takes us on a journey through a difficult time in England when the country was in mourning and vulnerable, she weaves a timeless romance with intriguing characters for all to enjoy.

In this romance, Kitty Cateril feels trapped in the home of her late husband's family. When her best friend writes her about the local Viscount needing a wife, Kitty thinks this might be the answer to her problem. But does she want to marry without love? *JK*

An Improper Arrangement

An Improper Arrangement by Kasey Michaels was surprisingly a good read! The story grabbed me immediately with its wit and smart humor, and kept me smiling all the way to the end. Thea was an excellent heroine: intelligent, bold, cheeky and unafraid to show up to Gabe at every chance. Gabe was totally enchanted by her personality. He couldn't help acting like a little boy around her who would pull the pigtails of little girls he liked. The two of them, however, had excellent chemistry, but also a fun companionship that kept me going.
Kasey Michaels doesn't seem to be afraid to rattle the cage in regards to her stories. She is an author that whether it be contemporary or historical is not afraid to throw in a few surprises along the way. She kept the story interesting and she proceeded to do it without ever losing the precision of the flow within the story. *JK*

Scotsman of My Dreams

Scotsman of My Dreams is by Karen Ranney. It is a wonderful story featuring a strong willed woman and scarred rake who never intended to be titled. I love the dynamics of this couple, the slow buildup to romance and the mystery and intrigue that surrounds these two, creating a historical romance that is hard to be missed. All in all, it is a fast pace tale of secrets, misconceptions, deceit, betrayal, romance, passion and love. It is also well written with engaging and interesting characters. The storyline is unique and interesting. A wonderful tale of post-war trauma, and the secrets they hold. An enjoyable and satisfying read! *JK*

Trapped by Scandal

Trapped by Scandal is the second book of the series by Jane Feather. The second book can also be read alone. It is during the French revolution and the main characters, Hero and William meet quite by accident as both are trying to find people to save them. William recognizes right away that Hero is a woman and not meant for what she is doing, but Hero answers to no one, not even her twin. Both are strong willed people who put others first and both are falling for the other. This is a fun, historical read and has a nice story line. *JK*

Only a Promise

Only a Promise is Book 5 in the Survivors' Club series by Mary Balogh. It can definitely be read as a stand alone book, but you will more than likely want to read all the series once you finish this one. The story revolves around two main characters. Ralph Stockwood the Earl of Berwick, and Chloe Muirhead, a woman who fled to the country to stay as a companion to the Duchess of Worthingham, her mother's God mother, and her late grandmother's dear friend. She also happens to be the Grandmother of Ralph Stockwood.

This book was a joy to read, it was fast paced, it was emotional, and I really felt empathy for the characters, not just the main ones, but all of them. There is much more to this than just Chloe and Ralph's story.

I can't find any flaws in this book, it was written well, and it held me captive from the beginning to end. If you enjoy marriage of convenience stories, then you will love this one. *JK*

Kilts and Daggers

Kilts and Daggers is the very first book I read from Victoria Roberts. Although this is the second book in the Highland Spies series, it was still great to read on its own. It is set in the Highlands of Scotland and with danger, mystery and of course a stunning romance, it will keep any historical romance reader happy. There are two main characters in this story. Grace yearned for adventure, ever since she found out that her uncle and sister are spies for the King. Grace is determined to become a spy on her own when she returns back to England. Fagan is a Highland captain, and was asked to escort Grace to England. Grace is sassy and strong willed, and Fagan is the barbaric Scotsman. If you like books set in historical Scotland, you don't want to miss this! *JK*
